What is it like to build a media career at Route?

Route is an independent media planning and buying agency in Newcastle upon Tyne, trading since 2016. Careers here are built on real client work across broadcast, digital, out of home and print, with training and support from apprenticeship through to senior planning roles.

How we work

Three things run through everything we deliver: we use data rather than habit, we hold ourselves to a high standard of service, and we go the extra mile on every brief. People who enjoy that way of working - curious about audiences, honest about numbers, careful with clients' money - tend to do well here.

The work is genuinely broad. In the same week a planner might be flighting radio for a bus operator, reviewing paid social for a building society, and building a reporting dashboard for a university marketing team. Independence means the recommendation is always the client's best answer, not a network's trading deal.

Route is an accredited Living Wage Employer, paying at least the real Living Wage - the rate independently calculated to meet the cost of living, rather than the government minimum. The commitment is voluntary, made through the Living Wage Foundation.

Learning and development

Route develops its own people. We work with Baltic Apprenticeships to bring apprentices into the agency, and we have connections with Newcastle and Northumbria universities for graduates starting a media career in the North East. Training runs from platform certifications through to client-facing planning skills, and the senior team works in the same room as the newest joiner.
